“Can you imagine giving as your first priority, as a stimulus for your business’s energy, growth and stability?

Susan and I wanted to give more generously to Shambhala, but our financial situation didn’t seem to support giving. Realizing we had some unused treatment hours in our healing business that could be donated, we reduced the fee for these hours to make them more attractive, and set our intention to donate the income from the first 8 hours of distance healing work we do every month for a year to the Shambhala Vision Campaign. If all goes well, we will raise $4,000 in the coming year. The Sakyong Foundation’s Challenge Grant will further leverage every $2 we give into $3, transforming our $4,000 donation into $6,000. We encourage you to consider joining the Sakyong’s generosity by taking a leap in this way…”
— Eric and Susan Shaffer are practitioner/instructors of medical qigong energetic healing, from their home office in Eugene, Oregon. Both are highly active in the Oregon Shambhala community.

WAYS TO GIVE

We can afford to open ourselves and join the rest of the world with a sense of tremendous generosity, tremendous goodness, and tremendous richness. The more we give, the more we gain – although what we gain should not particularly be our reason for giving. Rather, the more we give, the more we are inspired to give constantly. —Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

  • Bequests

Make a Gift Through Your Estate – Naming the Foundation in your will is another way of perpetuating support for the Foundation. A bequest can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residual of your estate after other beneficiaries have been paid.

  • Beyond Shambhala

Many of our community members provide support to outside organizations.
By using the Foundation as an intermediary and pooling these funds, we aim to strengthen Shambhala by insuring that our community’s gifts are recognized by recipient organizations. The Foundation’s $80,000 grant to the Chandragiri project exemplifies this. Shambhala members have been inspired to give in support of a water purification project in a Tibetan settlement in Orissa, India. Although these gifts could have been given directly, the Sakyong requested that be directed through The Sakyong Foundation. Read more »

Please consider the use of the Foundation as an intermediary, making a donor directed gift for other non-profits that you are inspired to support.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable annuity is a way of donating to the Foundation while keeping a fixed, predictable income stream.

  • Charitable Remainder Trusts

The Foundation can be the beneficiary of a CRT.  In the case of a CRT, an annual percentage return of the assets value is established.
