Living Peace Award

As it is in all the world’s profound spiritual traditions, peace is the core teaching of the Sakyong’s work and the Shambhala lineage. In the Shambhala view, peace is not a passive state; rather, it involves actively dedicating our lives to the service of others.

In 2006, Sakyong Mipham RInpoche established the Living Peace Award. This award is presented to individuals or groups of people who embody humanity’s profound aspirations for a peaceful world.

The Living Peace Award is represented by one of North America’s most distinctive icons of wisdom and compassion – The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya. In these turbulent times that threaten the lives of countless people and the planet itself, this monument is a beacon for peace in both America and abroad. It serves as a timeless image for the Living Peace Award.

His Holiness, the XIVth Dalai Lama, is the first recipient of this award, presented on the occasion of his historic visit to The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya in September 2006.

The Sakyong aims to develop a Living Peace Program to help transform global conflicts, and to create centers for the culture of peace in troubled areas such as the Middle East.
