DORJE KASUNG

The Dorje Kasung is the largest volunteer service organization in Shambhala. For over 35 years, Dorje Kasung training and practice has been an integral part of the path of meditation for thousands of community members. The commitment of the Dorje Kasung is to benefit others and bring about Victory over War through the aspiration to deal directly with the suffering in the world around us with bravery and compassion.
The Dorje Kasung is modeled on the ancient Tibetan tradition of “dharma protectors.” Kasung are trained in holding and protecting the physical space for the practice and study of meditation. This protection extends to the teacher who presents the teachings, the teachings themselves, and the community of students. The Dorje Kasung also provides “health and wellbeing” and other community care services for people in need.
The Dorje Kasung serves under the leadership of the Makkyi Rabjam, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, inspired by the vision of its founder the Makkyi Rabjam, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
In 2008, The Sakyong Foundation offered a Dorje Kasung Endowment and Special Projects Matching Fund campaign. Through a combination of one-time and recurring monthly investment, a seed Endowment of $60,000 has been established in which contributions become a legacy that is protected and invested for the benefit of the Dorje Kasung service organization. If you are interested in helping to further build this endowment, please consider making a gift.
